Vortragsreihe des Monitoringzentrums - Introducing the National Biodiversity Data Centre – managing Ireland’s biodiversity data
Vortragender: Dr. Liam Lysaght (The National Biodiversity Data Centre Ireland)
The presentation will introduce the role of and work of the National Biodiversity Data Centre in Ireland. It will provide an overview of the key challenges in biodiversity data management and the national digital infrastructure that it has created to help collate, coordinate, manage and provide access to species occurrence data. This infrastructure is provided by Ireland’s Citizen Science Portal, a platform to facilitate standardised data capture, and Biodiversity Maps to display and provide access to empirical biodiversity data. Success with the establishment of systematic surveying and monitoring of biodiversity that enable quantitative data to track population change will be presented. The difference types of monitoring schemes will be presented and some of the results and challenges discussed.
